Like I mentioned, most of the letters that we have been scanned except for 1 or 2 of ours and any that the other family members may have. The reason we ask that you send us any letters you may have and want to include is we are trying to keep high quality scans and consistent images.

For some technical talk, they are being scanned at 600 dpi (dots per inch), full image, 200 lpi (lines per inch) and photo quality and are being saved as TIF files (tagged image format). In basic terms, high quality non-compressed images. The only disadvantage of this file type is large file size. For a page that is scanned in at 5" x 7", the file size is between 5 to 6 megs, very large.

I know a lot of people, including photo experts, may say "Why so High?" Well, we feel that the importance of these letters justifies it. As you will see in the book that we are creating, the image and clarity is perfect. I know the image size in the book is smaller than the original, but if we wanted to print a page as full size or even larger, they would be as high quality and clear. On some you can even see the cross hatch of the linen paper he wrote on.

So far, because of the file sizes, we are looking at 3 or 4 CD's in a set or maybe 1 DVD. We may make a 1 CD version with a lower quality images if anybody may be interested. But, like I said, the importance of these letters, we will make anything that you would like.
